UNREAL BAND… REAL MUSIC
I’m not a professional musician or singer. I never was. Life took me in other directions. But there were lyrics and choruses, notes scribbled in notebooks, and I always wondered what they might sound like if they were played and recorded with care. My songs are the result of Wishful Thinking. Some of them are old. A few were written more than twenty years ago, back when I was still playing guitar and had long given up my dreams of becoming a rock star. Others come from more recent chapters of life. A handful arrived uninvited during sleepless nights, fully formed and impossible to ignore.
Every verse and chorus comes from lived experience, memory, or long reflection. The music and vocals are carefully curated to match how the songs sounded in my head — virtual session players standing in for the ones I never could have hired.
Each persona that emerged became a member of The Brock Lanyard Band — a name I made up that just stuck. Thanks to modern tools I didn’t have back then, I finally get to hear these songs as they might have sounded if I had the oppportunity to record them. It’s real music, by an unreal band.
And that’s ok. I hope you like them anyway. Wishful thinking…
— Wyatt Russell
Brock Lanyard Band is a folk‑country‑rock project built around storytelling — songs that carry heart, soul, and a little dust from the road. Fronted by Wyatt Russell, the band blends acoustic roots with rock energy and a lyrical style that ranges from deeply introspective to wryly observant.
The music is real, the performances are authentic, and the stories are drawn from life. The only twist? The band itself is fictional — a creative collaboration brought to life through songwriting and modern production tools.
Wyatt Russell
Songwriter, arrangements. Writes every lyric and melody. Spent years pretending he wasn’t writing songs anymore. Eventually gave up on that idea.
Zack
Lead vocals, bass guitar and standup bass. The steady hand of the band. Knows when to lean in and when to leave space. Has been carrying these songs longer than anyone else.
Blake
Lead vocals, guitars, keyboards. Brings texture and atmosphere. Comfortable moving between grit and restraint, often in the same song.
Hank
Vocals, guitars, mandolin, harmonica, dobro, fiddle. Plays whatever the song seems to need. Often accused of bringing too much to the table, and usually correct.
Lloyd
Lead vocals, drums. Keeps things moving without drawing attention to himself. Knows exactly when to stop.
